I used to argue with the girlfriend about lightning here in Hawaii.  My argument was that for some reason we never see the actual bolt here in the islands, all we see are flashes from distant bolts over the ocean.  Her’s was that bolts do hit the islands and she has seen them before.  Fact is an electrical storm took out a transformer a few years back that caused a statewide blackout.  But still  I never seen bolts.  What ever the reason I believe this to be a rare event.  But I studied the technique of capturing said bolts on photograph DSLR.  Because well Luck is when hours of preparation meets that second of opportunity.  And well wouldn’t you know it opportunity presented itself and I went with it.  And what I captured that day was beyond luck.  There were multiple sky to ground strikes that blew my mind (as well as a few transformers).  But something else amazed me more.  Webs of lighting were racing across the sky, from cloud to cloud they jumped.  I took hundreds of shots that night trying to time it just right.  And well this was the only ONE that I captured.  And this one photo is defiantly photo bucket portfolio worthy.
